Lexington Well Drilling No Water? New Wells Cost Home Buyers (859) 534-9537

New Well Drilling in Central Kentucky: How the Project Works

A new well is one of the last true site-built systems a homeowner buys, and knowing the sequence keeps the project honest on both sides. Here it is, start to water.

We’re a local referral service. Call or send the form and we’ll connect you with a Kentucky-certified water well driller or a well pump professional serving Central Kentucky — for an emergency, an estimate, or a straight answer. No charge to you for the referral.

1. Siting

Where the rig sets up matters twice: for water odds and for sanitation. Setback rules keep wells clear of septic systems, barnyards, and drainage; in Bluegrass karst, an experienced driller also reads the land — valley position, known producing wells nearby, fracture trends — because our limestone rewards siting judgment more than most geology does. This is the conversation where local experience earns its fee.

2. Certification and Paperwork

Kentucky requires the driller to be state-certified (Division of Water, 401 KAR 6:320) and to file a record of the completed well with the state — depth, casing, yield, construction details. That record protects you: it’s the well’s birth certificate, and you should receive a copy. Every driller we refer is certified; ask any bidder to confirm theirs.

3. Drilling Day(s)

The rig bores through soil and rock, casing is set through the unstable upper zones and grouted to seal surface water out — the step that protects your water quality for decades — and drilling continues into bedrock until water-bearing fractures produce adequately. In karst, that depth is discovered, not promised: some holes produce early, some go deep, and the cost page covers how honest bids handle that uncertainty.

4. Development, Yield Test, Disinfection

The new well is developed (cleared of drilling debris until it runs clean), yield-tested so you know what it actually produces — get the number in writing — and shock-disinfected. A bacteria test after disinfection is the confirmation that matters.

5. The Pump System and Hookup

Pump sized to the well’s tested yield and the house’s demand, drop pipe, pitless adapter, trenched supply line, pressure tank and controls inside. Sometimes the driller’s crew, sometimes a separate pump professional — confirm which, and confirm it’s in the quote. Then water, from your own ground.
