Straight numbers with the region’s honest caveat attached: in karst country, the biggest cost variable — depth to reliable water — can’t be promised in advance. Here’s how the price actually assembles.
We’re a local referral service. Call or send the form and we’ll connect you with a Kentucky-certified water well driller or a well pump professional serving Central Kentucky — for an emergency, an estimate, or a straight answer. No charge to you for the referral.
Most Central Kentucky residential wells, drilled, cased, and ready for a pump system, land between $5,000 and $15,000+. The spread is real, and it’s driven by: depth (the meter that never stops mattering), casing length (steel or PVC through the unstable upper zones), the pump system (pump, pressure tank, wiring, trenching to the house — often quoted separately, always ask), site access for the rig, and geology luck — whether the hole intersects water-bearing fractures early or late.
Drilling is commonly priced per foot, which sounds comparable across bids — until you notice one bid assumes 150 feet and another assumes 300. In fracture-flow limestone, neither driller controls the answer. The useful comparison isn’t the per-foot rate alone; it’s the whole quoted picture: per-foot rate, casing rate, what the pump system adds, what a low-yield outcome triggers (deepening? hydrofracturing? a second location?), and how the driller handles the conversation when the geology disappoints. Ask each bidder all five.
Is the pump system in this number or separate? What happens if we hit inadequate yield — and what does that cost? Is the well yield-tested and disinfected before handoff? What’s the casing plan? Are you certified with the Kentucky Division of Water? (All drillers we refer are.) Multiple written estimates are normal in this trade and no good driller resents the comparison.
If a rural water district line reaches your frontage, price the tap fee before drilling — sometimes it wins, often it doesn’t past the meter fees, but knowing beats wondering. And if the problem is an existing well underperforming, pump diagnosis or well rehabilitation can be a four-figure answer to what looked like a five-figure question.
Tell us the county, the project, and the timeline, and we’ll connect you with a Kentucky-certified driller who quotes it straight.
